  • The Challenge

Japanese sushi and bento restaurant chain Wasabi wished to digitalise their menu boards across seven of its London locations. We were enlisted to install the displays across five of Wasabi’s Marks & Spencer concession locations and two Wasabi standalone stores. Wasabi required digital displays that would replace the lightbox printed menus utilising a bespoke solution for each individual space to complement its pod counters.

  • The Approach

The central aim was to standardise Wasabi’s in-store experience for customers. Ensuring the menu boards were up to date with the latest information was also of integral importance to restaurant operations, so as to reduce the time invested in manually maintaining them. We, therefore, focused our attention on specifying a cloud-based platform that would allow for remote updates. Each of the stores has their own layout and till points, with the M&S concessions featuring a different set up to the standalone locations. We, therefore, needed to tailor the format of the screens to best suit existing operations. Wasabi prides themselves on providing freshly prepared food to their customers and part of the restaurant experience is being able to see chefs at work. It was, therefore, important that the menu boards did not obstruct the view into the kitchen.

  • The Solution

We specified LG’s 86in 86BH5C ultra-stretch as the perfect solution for the overhead displays above the counters in four of the Marks & Spencer locations. These were installed in pairs in a landscape formation to span the length of the counters and to display all of Wasabi’s menu content.

  • LG’s 86in 86BH5C ultra-stretch screens paired in a landscape formation

To create window signage in The West One Shopping Centre, we installed them back to back within a single portrait display. The store’s counter features a video wall mounted from the ceiling above to showcase menu-content

  • Six-screen 47in LG 47LV35A narrow-bezel videowall

The Pantheon Oxford Street, Marks & Spencer store, features a similar installation but in a smaller size:

  • Three-screen 43in LG 43SM5KD display

The cloud-based Signagelive digital signage software platform is used across the system to control the content and enable remote updates. We work directly with Wasabi’s marketing team to maintain, service, and manage dynamic content for the displays. The system is synchronised via IAdea XMP-7300 media players with Anytiles solution, which supports 4K content and mounted using B-Tech brackets.

Aferdita Qesku, Director of Sales at Signagelive, says: “We’ve provided a simple to maintain, cost-effective, time-saving solution.  The end result for Wasabi is a representation of how careful consideration of client requirements and technical understanding of both hardware and software has come into play to deliver on client needs. Pioneer has worked with Signagelive for a good few years now and it shows in all of their client integrations.”

The solution Pioneer Group has provided is excellent, as is their attention to detail. The sleek design of LG’s products fit with the interior design of our stores and really brings the space alive. Great technology and great partner – the two must go hand in hand.
