Pioneer Group Sales Team Embarked on “BigTeamWalk” for London Sport

The hustle and bustle of the corporate world often leaves little room for relaxation, fresh air, and moments of connection with nature. However, the sales team at Pioneer Group has recently taken a bold step towards prioritising mental health (as part of #mentalhealthawarenessmonth) and fostering team camaraderie by participating in the #BigTeamWalk initiative by Activehub in support of #LondonSport.

This initiative saw six members of the Pioneer Group Sales Team (Mark Childerhouse, Lauren Butcher, Johnathan Rose, Satinder Ahluwalia, Sophie Whitthread and Andrew Sharp) trading in their office chairs for walking shoes (or Trainers in Satinders case, as he couldn’t find his walking shoes) as they embarked on a journey to explore the scenic landscapes of the UK, all while promoting physical activity and mental well-being. Business Development Manager Andrew Sharp shared his insights on the impact of the challenge: “It has provided me with the ability to take healthier breaks in the day, get some fresh air, and do more exercise. It has also allowed me to explore some of the more beautiful parts of Reading’s flora and fauna.”

For many participants, the #BigTeamWalk wasn’t just about getting steps in; it was about fostering a sense of unity and shared purpose within the team. Mark Childerhouse, Sales and Marketing Director, emphasised the importance of team spirit and competitiveness in driving their collective efforts forward. “The focus on team spirit and competitiveness has been palpable throughout our journey. Each step we take is not just for ourselves but for the entire team, pushing us to go further and bond stronger,” he expressed.

Beyond the physical benefits of walking, the #BigTeamWalk has served as a catalyst for meaningful conversations, laughter, and the forging of lasting friendships among colleagues. As we navigated through picturesque trails and lush greenery, team members found solace in each other’s company, finding respite from the daily pressures of work.

Initiatives like the #BigTeamWalk underscore Pioneer Group’s commitment to employee well-being and community engagement. By actively supporting initiatives that promote physical activity and mental wellness, Pioneer Group sets a precedent for other organisations to prioritise the holistic health of their employees.

Pioneer Group Sales Team wrapped up the #BigTeamWalk journey, which covered the equivalent miles from London to Edinburgh, coming 2nd overall and completing the challenge in 14 days! (With an outstanding effort from Satinder Ahluwalia, Pioneer Group Technical Presales Manager and oldest member of the team at 64, who covered over 254 KM in 14 days). However, not content with walking 510 miles. The team have decided to continue walking, and over the next two weeks, we will cover the equivalent distance from London to Reading and then Reading to Stockport.

The team has found a new appreciation for nature’s transformative power. They have been reminded of how united the team is and the value of prioritising mental wellness in the workplace.

In the end, it’s not just about reaching the finish line—it’s about the journey, the connections made, and the shared experiences that enrich the team’s fabric.
